Proclamation
Whereas,
the annual St. Louis Strassenfest provides fun and entertainment
for citizens of the City of St. Louis while enabling not-for-profit
organizations over the years to earn more than eight million
dollars for their cultural, social, educational and charitable
activities; and
- Whereas,
Michael J. Wendl for ten years has served as President of the
St. Louis Strassenfest Corporation with skill and devotion, making
the Strassenfest an increasingly important part of the St. Louis
community and one of the finest ethnic festivals in the country;
and
Whereas, Michael Wendl has consistently promoted the German heritage
of our community for the benefit of all and has served in leadership
roles in the German Cultural Society and its programs; and
- Whereas,
through his leadership, the Strassenfest German Garden at the
Missouri Botanical Gardens has been created and totally funded
by the St. Louis Strassenfest Corporation. Additionly, numerous
charitable and civic organizations have benefited through grants
given by the Strassenfest Corporation to support their various
works; and
- Whereas,
in all these endeavors his wife, Betty, has assisted him in numerous
ways, contributing to the success of his efforts (and presenting
calorie-laden tables of refreshments for the Board of Directors);
and
- Whereas,
Michael Wendl is now retiring after a successful and fulfilling
presidency during which the City of St. Louis and citizens of
the Metropolitan St. Louis Area have greatly benefited from his
vision and hard work; and
- Whereas,
the City of St. Louis joins the Strassenfest Corporation, friends
and family of Michael Wendl on the occasion of his retirement
and extends thanks and appreciation for the contributions he
has made to the Strassenfest and the St. Louis metropolitan community.
We also express our best wishes for good health, peace, and an
enjoyable retirement.
- Now,
Therefore, I, Francis G. Slay, Mayor of the City of St. Louis,
do hereby proclaim January 27, 2003, as:
“Michael Wendl Day”
in the City of St. Louis
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused to
be affixed the seal of the City of St. Louis this 27th day of
January, A.D. 2003.
