The German Culture Center-UMSL presented the Northwinds Concert Band in a benefit concert for the German School Association.
The concert took place in the German Cultural Hall on Jefferson.
Larry Marsh directed with Renate Gerloff as narrator.
The concert featured an arrangement for band and narrator based upon the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, “The Steadfast Tin Soldier.” Another work told the story of “The Bremen Town Musicians.” The narration was in German, but there were helpful notes in English.
Both, the music and narration were excellent.
Northwinds rounded out the concert with marches and folk songs.
The children and the audience enjoyed the concert.
An hour before the concert began, the children made tin soldier hats and tiaras.
Meanwhile the adults enjoyed a continental breakfast courtesy of the German School.
