The German Culture
Center-UMSL presented the Northwinds Concert Band in a benefit concert for
the German School Association.
The concert took place in the
German Cultural Hall on Jefferson.
The audience was invited to a
continental breakfast ahead of the concert.

Before the concert
began, Gert Wilhelm (right), language consultant of the Goethe Institute
handed a placard to Helga Thalheimer (left) the President of the German
School and Carmen Freeman (middle), the Principal of the German School.
The school is part of a global
initiative by the German Foreign Ministry called: Schulen – Partner der
Zukunft (Schools - Partner of the Future) |

Larry Marsh director and
conductor of the Northwinds Concert Band played well-known American music
and traditional German songs.
The concert featured amongst others
“The Dancing Cat” by Anderson and “Fidgety Feet” by Edmundson.
The German Sing-alongs included:
“Das Wandern ist des Müller’s Lust” and “Kein schöner
Land”. |

Renate Gerloff was
the narrator. She read well-known German poems such as “Er ist’s” of
Eduard Mörike or “Gefunden” of Johann Wolfgang von
Goethe.
Both, the music and narration were
excellent. |

The children of the
German School participated at the concert as well. They sang traditional
and modern German childrens’ songs. |
|
One of the traditional
songs was: “Du, du, liegst mir im Herzen”.
Helga Thalheimer and the childrens’
class teachers of the German School did an outstanding job of preparing
this part of the concert. |

The concert was a great success.
